How Our Hope can benefit your clients
In 1972, a small group of pioneering leaders founded Our Hope to provide a voice for women against a disease known for shame and silence. Since then, Our Hope has become a leader in guiding women 18 and older to recovery from alcoholism, addiction and the mental health and emotional conditions so often related to these diseases.
Expertise that complements yours
With our continuum of services, an expert clinical team, and distinct women-centered approach, Our Hope meets a range of needs for professionals seeking a safe and dignified space for their clients’ journeys to recovery. Our work is a complement to:
- Mental Health Care providers, given our specialization in Residential Treatment and our focus on addressing alcoholism and/or addiction along with co-occurring disorders.
- Emergency Room Social Workers and Medical Detoxification Unit Professionals seeking options for female clients in need of assessment or treatment upon release.
- Criminal Justice System Professionals, especially Probation Officers and Attorneys working with female clients in need of Court-Mandated Substance Abuse Assessments or counseling.
- Other Health Care Professionals, including Physicians, Nurses and Medical Practice Administrators who have female patients or colleagues struggling with substance abuse and are in need of assessment, couseling or our Certified Health Professional Recovery Program.
- Religious Professionals seeking a safe, dignified, therapeutic environment for female parishioners who may be struggling with substance abuse.
Our clinicians are all Master’s Level Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselors licensed in substance abuse and mental health therapy. Our all-female Staff includes some women who are in recovery themselves and our team includes clinicians fluent in Spanish and Romanian.
Our Hope has also earned top ratings from the Center for Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, with 3-Year accreditation once again awarded to Our Hope in December 2011.
A continuum of services
Our relationship with each client begins and ends where she needs it to. This might begin with a thorough biopsychosocial assessment in our offices or in the privacy of a woman’s West Michigan home. Our therapists work with each client to create a recovery program that may include one or more of the following:
- Our Signature Residential Treatment Program, with 30-, 60- and 90-Day options
- Our Intensive Outpatient Treatment Program
- Our Health Professional Recovery Program
- Additional services, such as Acupuncture Detoxification Therapy and our unique Recovering Motherhood parenting program
- Continuing Care services, including on-going individual therapy and a weekly Recovery Principles Group
A women-centered approach
Using our clinical expertise in women-centered recovery and grounded in the 12-Step philosophy, we:
- Encourage honesty rooted in hope. To break down the feelings of shame and fear that come with alcoholism and/or addiction, we uphold each woman’s dignity and help her identify her unique strengths.
- Heal the whole woman. We help women explore the emotional, physical, spiritual and social wounds of their disease and overcome the pain they create, so the journey to recovery comes from a place of healing and hope.
- Build resources for recovery. Knowing that the tools for recovery must be nurtured for the long term, we focus on helping women replace unhealthy patterns with inner strengths, new coping skills and support networks.
A dignified place to do difficult work
Our home-like environment is a reflection of our women-centered approach to recovery. Addiction looks different in women than in men, so their treatment needs are different. Research shows that women recover best in a safe and encouraging space, with therapy that acknowledges the many roles they play and the unique stigmas, fears and barriers they face. Therefore, our work happens in a surprisingly non-institutional setting: a dignified home hidden away in the historic Heritage Hill neighborhood of Grand Rapids, Michigan.
