The Nelson Fund

The Nelson Fund is named for one of Our Hope’s founders, Willis (Bill) Nelson, and was established in 2001 by his children in honor of their parents’ 50th wedding anniversary.  Mr. Nelson’s personal mission was to help recovering women become employable and return to society as contributing members.  Helping women achieve financial independence is at the heart of this fund, making a lot of sense, given Mr. Nelson’s career as a Financial Advisor and his service as the first Treasurer of Our Hope Association.

Donations to the Nelson Fund might be used help to finance a client’s education, be it taking classes to complete a degree or reinstating a commercial driver’s license.  They can also be used to help a woman pay her rent when she leaves Our Hope—i.e., we will match funds when partial payment of her rent is received from her church.  We also use the Nelson Fund to cover women’s important health and hygiene needs, like vision care/glasses, dental care, medications, medical co-pays and health and beauty aid basics.  Bottom line, donations to the Nelson Fund can make a real difference for women seeking employment after leaving Our Hope.
