Q: Why do you enjoy working with women or in the recovery community?
A: Many individuals in my family have struggled with addiction, myself included. My family has also struggled with mental illness. These are the reasons why I went into social work to begin with. I also, for philosophical reasons, find it difficult to rationalize working a job wherein I am not helping people. That's not to say that I would ever knock a job - a job is a job. But, for myself, if I am working it needs to be in the service of helping others.
Q: What do you bring to Our Hope?
A: I had never worked residential prior to working at Our Hope, but I had worked for several years in addiction treatment as well as many years in mental health. I had originally gotten into social work intending to focus on addiction treatment, but life threw me some curve balls, and I found myself in OP MH. I enjoyed my time doing that, but working with OHA served as a way to return to what I intended to do while offering me invaluable experience in a new facet of the field (that being residential services).
Q: What is one fun fact about you?
A: Fun is in the eye of the Beholder - and speaking of the devil, I am a long time Game Master for a group of friends that plays Dungeons and Dragons and other roleplaying games. At this time, we are currently on a hiatus, however, owing to scheduling concerns.
Q: Anything else you’d like to add?
A: People who say anything to the effect of "I don't like animals" can't be trusted. How can you (generalized you) in all seriousness look at a kitten in its face and think to yourself, "I don't like this creature." - that's only mostly tongue-in-cheek. As you may have guessed, I have several pets.
